Does XML data have formal semantics?
I was thinking about this for a while now and I'm not sure if XML data has formal semantics. For example, <employee> Bob </employee> would tell us human that Bob is a employee. But a machine would not know about the meaning of the word "employee". So I'm not sure if we can say it has semantic. Also we could instead write <abc> Bob </abc> . This would not even be understandable for humans as well, thus it would mean that it has no semantic?
